I like to write games that help people feel real emotions. At the moment I'm particularly keen on games which shine a light on an element of recent history and help us think about it.
I particularly like story games, with simple rules that enable and encourage emotionally complex stories. A Cool and Lonely Courage looks at the brave women spies of the SOE (Special Operations Executive) who served in WW2 occupied France. A third of them were killed during operations. A unique framing device and a hand of playing cards help ensure that every game is different.
Love & Barbed Wire is an epistolary story game. Two players write letters to one another, expressing their hopes, fears and love during WW1. It can be played in about an hour together at a table, or it can be played across time - writing letters or emails to one another as the game progresses.
I hope that you enjoy these games, and I'd love to hear about your experiences playing them.
